Now Accepting Auditions for The SpongeBob Musical
Bainbridge Performing Arts is holding auditions for our May 2025 production of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL.

DETAILS
All rehearsals and performances will be held at Bainbridge Performing Arts, located on Bainbridge Island and a short walk from the ferry terminal. The 35-minute ferry leaves from Coleman dock on the Seattle waterfront and walk-on ferry passes will be provided for our Seattle-area cast members for rehearsals and performances. Mileage reimbursements will be provided to our non-ferry riding cast members. This is a volunteer, non-paid position.
Audition slots available by appointment; Tuesday, December 10th 6:00pm - 9:30 pm at Bainbridge Performing Arts and Wednesday, December 11th 6:00-9:30 pm in Studio C at Theatre Puget Sound in Seattle.
Callbacks will be held in person by invitation Saturday, December 14th 10:00am-3:30 pm at Bainbridge Performing Arts
Rehearsals will be March 8-April 30, and will be four days a week (Mon, Tues & Thurs evenings and Sat days). A more complete rehearsal schedule will be provided before callbacks.
Performances will be May 1-18, 2025 at Bainbridge Performing Arts
Roles available for actors ages 15 and up. Please see the character list below. We are looking for strong singers and movers, tap experience a plus. All roles are gender flexible.

For your audition, please prepare 1 monologue and 1 song (32 measures). Songs should be upbeat, pop/rock or newer music-theater canon. An accompanist will be provided, please bring your sheet music clearly marked, in a 3 ring binder. No acapella or tracks please.

SYNOPSIS
When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.
CHARACTERS
SpongeBob SquarePants (Range: C3-B4) Strong solo singer. SpongeBob is optimistic, innocent, energetic and sometimes hyperactive. This actor should have the ability to move well and be extremely physical.
Patrick Star (Range: Bb2-Bb4) Strong solo singer. Well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills; kind and somewhat clueless, an innocent; a big softie, who can also be prone to sudden child-like fits of rage or frustration.
Squidward Q. Tentacles (Range: A2-F#4) Strong solo singer and dancer. Grumpy, cynical, dry, short tempered, generally negative but lovable! This Actor must move well and tap dance.
Eugene Krabs (Range: B2-Bb4) Strong solo singer. The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward.
Sandy Cheeks (Range: A3-E5) Strong solo singer. A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. She acts as SpongeBob’s most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from erupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge and brilliant inventions to aid the mission.
Karen the Computer (Range: G#3-F#5) Glamorous, a robotic wife of Plankton. She’s been there for Plankton’s every scheme and plot and has become jaded – she’s been there and done that. Strong comic actor, as well as Singer and Mover.
Pearl Krabs (Range:Bb3-F#5) Strong solo singer. Mr. Krabs’ bratty teenage daughter. She is obsessed with the rock band “The Electric Skates” and just wants her father to understand her. She has a big voice and an even bigger personality.
Sheldon J. Plankton (Range: B2-G#4) Strong solo singer. His personality outweighs his size- slick, scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; very greedy, but his heart is still open enough to rekindle a romance with his wife. This character will need to dance and rap skills a plus.
The Foley Artist Fish is a staged role that produces all sound effects specified in the script and score using percussion instruments, triggered digital effects, and other creative sound makers
