Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra Presents “Notes of Spring”

FRIDAY, APRIL 11 @ 7 PM (Open Dress Rehearsal)
SATURDAY, APRIL 12 @ 7:30 PM
SUNDAY, APRIL 13 @ 3 PM

This weekend, the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra invites you to an extraordinary concert experience that blends beloved classics, rising stars, and bold new music. Under the baton of Music Director Ryan Dakota Farris, the program features solo performances by two exceptional young artists, the world premiere of a geologically inspired composition, and a whimsical favorite narrated by students from BPA’s Theatre School.

Violinist Rachel Jung, a celebrated 11th grader in the Bellevue School District’s Advanced Learning program, takes the stage with Dvořák’s Violin Concerto in A minor. With performances at Carnegie Hall, accolades from the Seattle Symphony, and top prizes from national competitions, Rachel brings depth and brilliance far beyond her years.

Double bassist Anderson Widjaja, 17, will perform the fiery third movement of Andrés Martín’s Double Bass Concerto No. 1. A three-time WMEA Solo/Ensemble winner and principal of the Seattle Youth Symphony, Anderson’s playing is technically stunning and emotionally powerful.

The program also features the world premiere of Active Geology, composed by Jessi Harvey, whose imaginative work explores Washington State’s prehistoric past through musical themes inspired by fossil discoveries and dramatic geologic transformations. This vibrant new piece moves from the ancient forests to the volcanic roots of the region, echoing with deep time and sonic storytelling.

To close the evening, audiences of all ages will enjoy The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant by Francis Poulenc. Narrated by students from BPA’s Theatre School, this charming musical tale brings to life the adventures of Babar with humor, heart, and orchestral color.

Tickets are on sale now—and as part of our commitment to youth and education, all patrons under 18 may attend for free. Whether you’re a longtime supporter of the arts or introducing someone to the magic of live symphonic music for the first time, this is the perfect concert to share.
