BPA Theatre School Teen Lab One Acts
Note: Audience members should meet in BPA lobby for ticket sales and pre-show refreshments. You will then be ushered to Studio B when doors open.
BPA Theatre School students perform two One-Act plays in a black box setting over the course of two weekends at Studio B, behind the Bainbridge Performing Arts Mainstage. This spring – under the tutelage of Ann Wilkinson Ellis and Pete Benson – students explored a variety of acting methods and styles through a series of intensive exercises and improv games, learning how to break down a script to find their character’s backstory and motivations, and applying active tactics to reveal the heart of their character. Their efforts culminate in the production of two One-Act plays:
SELFIE
By Bradley Hayward
Facing bullies, parents, pressure, sickness, and their own self-judgment, teens search for ways to stand out. As they document their year, one click at a time, they come to realize life is not about what other people see – it’s about the pictures they have of themselves.
LOCKDOWN
By Douglas Craven
In a darkened classroom, eight students sit in an official lockdown, not knowing if it’s just a drill or an actual emergency. They are left alone to wonder if it’s a real event or an exercise, and if it’s safer to stay or run.
Selfie and Lockdown are produced by special arrangement with Playscripts.
