Those who have never been to an Improv show before will realize right away that nothing The EDGE does is scripted and that the members are literally making it up as they go along. With no pre-conceived notions for dialogue, plot, situation, characters, etc., the troupe works solely with material from audience members. For more than a dozen years, the troupe has appeared monthly at BPA, inspiring laughter, cheering and rave reviews.
Cathy Nickum (bainbridgebuzz.com) extols the zany antics of The EDGE, saying, “the troupe regales audience members with on-the-spot comedy that just can’t be duplicated in any rehearsed performance.”
Drew and Alice Thomes of Gilbert Thomes Jewelry are big fans and they are tickled to present The EDGE during BPA's 50th Anniversary Season. They say each performance offers “Yoga for your funny bone! Calisthenics for your brain! Cross training for the psyche! Stream of consciousness hilarity for the whole family!”
The EDGE began on Bainbridge Island with co-founders John Ellis and Frank Buxton among the players. Ken Ballenger was enlisted to direct, and he recruited established Improv performers Susan MacPherson, Matt Whitman and Cynthia Lair. Dr. Andrew Shields came on board as keyboard wizard, followed by the popular Seattle theatre actress and singer, Bhama Roget. The troupe is frequently blessed with guest appearances by the likes of Matt Smith, a stellar performer and teacher of Improv. Hailing from Ireland, the troupe’s most recent addition, Órla McGovern, has practiced Improv on both sides of the pond.
The EDGE members look forward to entertaining viewers for a long time to come and aspire to give YOU “something wonderful, right away!”
The production has one intermission and is suitable for “PG-13” audiences.
