Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra concludes its 35th Anniversary Season with the Bainbridge Chorale & Children’s Chorus in A Night At The Opera. Responding to Music Director David Upham’s pre-season call for programming suggestions, one orchestra member said, “Wouldn’t it be great to do a program that includes every opera hit you ever wanted to do?!” And so began this season’s grand finale.
The origins of the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra can be traced back to a program shared with the Bainbridge Chorale 35 years ago, and the symphony is honored to be reunited for this momentous program.
The Chorale’s Music Director, Dr. Anthony Spain, will share the podium with David Upham in the performance of opera arias, choruses, and instrumental works. Bainbridge Island resident Sharon Acton, soprano, will sing three arias, as will island native Eden Nordby, soprano. Eden will be joined by her recital partner, Charles Chen, for two duets. Also appearing are baritone David Borning, a disciple of island resident Michael Trimble, and the orchestra’s concertmaster, Dr. Thomas Monk, in the beautiful “Meditation” from Massanet’s opera, Thaïs.
The program will feature choruses from Verdi’s La Traviata, Nabucco, and the “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore. Arias include popular favorites from Verdi’s Rigoletto, Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, and Puccini’s famous “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi. The second half will center on George Bizet’s perennial favorite, Carmen, with a collection of beloved arias, choruses and instrumental works. Be sure not to miss this very exciting conclusion to an outstanding season of music!
Each concert includes one 15 minute intermission and is suitable for music lovers of all ages.
