declassified seriesThe 20th Century: British &American ClassicsCo-produced in Part with Video Artist Steven Fogell and Students in the Video and Animation Classes at West Sound Academy June 8 Tickets: 2006-2007 Media Sponsor: Bainbridge Island Review A whole afternoon of British and American music of the 20th century! The program starts with the Elgar Quintet for Piano and Strings of 1917 with its echoes of the late-Romantic German and Austrian symphonists, its moments of nostalgia and the sharp individualism of Edwardian England’s composer laureate. It ends with the American Irving Fine’s Partita for Woodwind Quintet of 1948. In between there are short selections by Frank Bridge, Benjamin Britten’s teacher, and by Louis Gottschalk and Frederick Rzewski. Performers include several talented young musicians—Catherine Edwards, Lia Hardy, Donna Adele Horning, Amelia Keyser-Gibson and Laetitia Lehman-Pearsall—as well as hornist Scott Avenell and bassoonist Brian Rolette making their first appearances in BPA’s chamber-music series. The multi-media “prelude” to the two sections of the program will be presentations of Benjamin Britten’s “Night-Piece” and Aaron Copland’s “Midday Thoughts,” co-produced with Video Artist Steven Fogell and students from West Sound Academy.
