communitywoodpileFully staged premiere of an original play by Sara Anne Scribner | DNA doesn't lie...but some Southern ladies do March 27 - 29 Chat Back Tickets 2006-2007 Media Sponsor: Bainbridge Island Review Inspired by her childhood experiences at family gatherings in the south and her adult observation that even the most well-intentioned whites often showed vestiges of racism, Sara Anne Scribner wrote Woodpile to examine the real uncensored race and class views of three generations of white Americans. Steven Fogell directs the fully staged premiere of this original play this March at BPA. In Woodpile, curiosity leads Bunny to explore the new racial DNA tests by sending in samples from her mother, sister and herself. But when their results arrive and are not what they all expected, her family reunion begins to dissolve. Three, and soon to be four, generations of this old, old Southern family confront their deeply held views on race, class, family and identity as one by one their long hidden secrets are publicly revealed. Sara’s first play, Bye Baby Bunting, a historical one-act, was given top honors in the first Field's End/BPA playwriting class in 2005. Woodpile, her first full length play, won the Freehold Theatre New Play Festival in Seattle, where Act One was presented as a staged reading. Sara developed a first draft of Woodpile in her women’s playwriting group, Kick Ass Women Playwrights. Bainbridge Performing Arts extends special thanks to its 2007 - 2008 Season Media Sponsor, Bainbridge Island Review.
